The CMO Opportunity:

AFC Portland is looking for a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join the established leadership team to help us become the "Starbucks of Retail Medical Services". The CMO will be a physician leader who has the proven capability of leading a team of physicians and physician assistants and embed the purpose and values in the team. Networking in the industry and helping hire the right physicians and other providers is a key requirement of this leader. He/She will be a role model for other providers and the broader clinical team on embodying our Core Purpose and Core Values in everyday conduct. The CMO will be an excellent clinician who patients love and want to come back to for entrusting their care with; he exemplifies and is a role model to other providers in how to handle difficult and challenging patients.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Be a role model in providing high quality patient care (70% patient care).
  • Be a champion of the various lines of service we have established: Urgent Care, Primary Care, Occupational Health and Immigration Physicals. Be an active team member in deciding and executing on other service offerings based on market analysis and AFC Portland capabilities.

  • Interview, and hire providers, adhering to the internal hiring process.

  • Partner with Operations director and other organizational development personnel to train and onboard the new providers ensuring a high-quality experience.

  • Manage the provider team and supervise (including facilitating other physicians to supervise) PAs in a busy group medical practice – ensure proper follow-up, protocols & policies are being followed, performance management etc.

  • Collaborate with the Managing Partner in the creation of performance evaluations, create and monitor development plans, and coordinate any disciplinary action, including termination.

  • Collaborate with Operations Director in topic and agenda creation for provider staff meetings; run these meetings successfully with high attendance.

  • Manage charting and coding quality control by following the agreed upon processes and standards established by the practice.

  • Work with all Executive Staff and clinic management to promote teamwork and help ensure a positive and productive work environment.

  • Be savvy in using electronic tools; become a super user in DocuTap/EMR and also internal productivity tools (Google Apps, Scheduling tools etc.).

  • Supervise laboratory – take training course to become certified laboratory director and ensure compliance with regulations.

  • Team with Operations Director to maintain the standards for the clinics re: the necessary equipment, supplies, medications to efficiently serve the patient base as established by the franchise and local requirements.

  • Team with the Sales and Marketing Director to position the brand and the practice in the community well. Be a catalyst for the sales team in helping grow the Occupational Health business for the practice. Function as an AFC Spokesperson and Medical Expert at off-site events on a monthly basis.

Position Requirements:

Medical Assistant with Oregon X-ray Licenses ▼

General Position Summary: We are currently seeking energetic, driven and team oriented Medical Assistants who have good communication, attention to detail, and who focus on high quality patient care. The job entails compassionately assisting our patients and supporting our providers in order to serve our patients with both exceptional and efficient medical care.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities: The duties will be performed in accordance to policy and procedure, standard of care, and in accordance of state certification. The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Report to Clinic Manager
  • Perform nursing procedures under supervision of physician or physician assistant
  • Assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patient’s chart
  • Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant
  • Ensure all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required
  • Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy calls
  • Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and physician assistants
  • Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.)
  • All other duties as assigned by Clinic Manager.

Secondary Functions: The following functions may typically be performed by other positions, however these may require the additional assistance from MAs:

  • Scheduling of patient appointments
  • Registering patients to include: Collection and verification of insurance, collection of payments, appropriately following our patient reminder process.
  • Assisting with our inventory ordering process by pulling inventory cards and relaying this information to Inventory Coordinator.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Interpersonal Contacts: Medical Assistants will spend the majority of their time working directly with our patient population. Those in this position will be one of the first representatives that our patients will come into contact with and therefore are the face of our organization. Additionally, our MAs will also work closely with our Front Desk Administrative staff, Clinic Managers and Providers.

Job Conditions:

  • Medical assistants work in well-lighted and clean environment
  • 80% of the position will entail standing and walking and entails frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
  • Medical Assistants are required to interact with other people and handle several responsibilities at once.

General Position Summary:
Clinic Manager/Administrator manages all operations and supervises non-provider staff of a growing urgent care medical practice. He/she also collaborates with providers to ensure the clinic operates efficiently and profitably. Knowledge of medical practice and previous management of staff are required. Good communication, attention to detail, ability to motivate and effectively lead the team are essential skills.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
• Staffing and Scheduling of Medical Assistants and Administrative Assistants
• Monitoring, Coaching, and evaluating performance of staff
• Ensuring that staff is adequately trained
• ensure that staff complete onboarding process
• Enforce company policies and procedures
• Manage supplies including inventory and ordering
• Work with vendors and authorizing invoices for supply orders
• Interface with billing department to obtain optimal clinic revenue
• Ensure that customer/ patients service needs are met
• Responsible for customer service scores related to patient experience
• Function as a clinic liaison with external businesses

Job Scope:
Clinic Managers are responsible for controlling their individual clinics revenue, productivity and efficiency. They are responsible for staying within budgetary requirements. Participation in development of organizational policies and guidelines is expected. Clinic Managers have decision making authority regarding non-provider staffing as well as placing individuals on performance improvement plans. Additionally, they will have a discretionary monthly allowance for clinical expenses. Inability to meet expectations can result in consequences ranging from impact on bonus structure to possible termination.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Clinic Managers are responsible for the hiring, coaching, and evaluation of non-provider staff working within their clinic. This position will generally have between 5 and 10 direct reports trained in either Medical Assisting or Administrative Support.

Interpersonal Contacts:
Clinic Managers will work with patients, and both provider and non-provider staff within their clinics daily. 30% of Clinic Manager time will be spent working with internal staff from various departments. They will also be responsible for coordinating with outside vendors, and occupational health clients.

Specific Job Skills:
• Ability to utilize electronic medical records systems
• Proficient use of back office equipment
• Intermediate skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and slideshow presentation software.
• Public speaking and presentation ability
• Ability to utilize coaching techniques to manage and develop team members
• Customer service skills
• Understanding of functionality of medical billing cycle and revenue cycle management
• Provide customer service in accordance to clinic mission

Education and/or Experience:

Job Conditions:
The work environment is typically an indoor clinical space. About 20% of the Clinic Managers time will be spent traveling within the Portland Metro area. Schedule may be somewhat unpredictable and include weekend and evening hours.
